College Essay Coaching
College application essays are an important part of a student’s application, and for some students, writing standout essays can be a daunting task. With a required essay on the Common App, and supplemental essays for specific schools, application essay writing can be an especially stressful part of a student’s senior year. It doesn’t have to be.
I provide students with a less stressful writing experience while helping them produce compelling essays that highlight their personality in a way colleges can’t see in other aspects of the application. The results of my work with students are clear. Students who worked with me have been admitted to competitive and Ivy League schools across the country, including Princeton University, University of Michigan, CalTech, and Syracuse University.Writing isn’t easy for a lot of students, especially when that writing writing is as high stakes as an application essay. Some students respond by procrastinating on their writing, some race through their writing to just have it done, and others become paralyzed by the stress of the writing task. Writing coaching helps students tackle these difficulties, produce a compelling essay, and become better writers by using the writing process.
Imagine if, instead of:
Finding writing stressful, your child felt like their writing work was manageable
Procrastinating until the last minute, your child had a writing plan they could stick to
Feeling overwhelmed by expressing their ideas, your child had a structure that helped them put their ideas into a clear and compelling essay
Not knowing where to start, they knew each step of a writing process to write a compelling application essay
Writing coaching provides students with a less stressful writing experience while producing their best writing work So they can be admitted into a school that reflects their academic successes. Let’s work together to help your child do their best.

Writing coaching provides support to students that reduces stress, gives them ownership over their writing, helps them develop their voice, and do their best work using a strategic writing process.
Writing coaching is a collaborative process. I am an expert in writing and teaching, but you are an expert in who you are and what you already know so far as a writer and a person. In writing coaching, we show up with full respect for all the skills being offered by each of us, and use that combination to work through a process together to produce a compelling writing piece while acquiring skills for future projects.
Because writing coaching means being open to all the things a student has to offer, it is an opportunity for writers to work toward finding their own voice. Tutoring often means a writer is being taught to echo the voice of the tutor, or have the writer write in the style of their tutor. In writing coaching, the process is meant to help you become a better version of the writer you are.
Tutoring is about delivering information. Coaching is about sharing it. It is more effective because it teachers students to OWN the process, their work, and their ideas. It is about thinking not just about how to write a good essay, but how to be a better writer in the future too.

What Families Say About Me
"I wanted to THANK you for helping Mia with her writing and being a positive part in this process!
With your guidance, my daughter has better chances to get to a school that would be a good fit for her.
-Einat
“ I was pleased and I highly recommend Cristin.
Cristin recently coached my daughter on a writing assignment. Not only did my daughter work well with her and produce work she was proud of, but through the process she learned tools that will help her well into the future. “
-Cathy
“We will be working with Cristin in the future and I have nothing but glowing words.
Cristin worked with Finn on his creative writing projects and she helped him navigate the stressful path of High School application essays. Cristin is an experienced teacher who is patient, she offers the right amount of constructive criticism and has reinforced his knowledge of how to create different writing frameworks. Perhaps most importantly, Finn never complains about his sessions with her, which as anyone who has a sports obsessed 8th grade boy knows is the best compliment there is. "
